Tesla, the pioneer in the electrification of automobiles, is globally hailed for its updates that generally need a Wi-Fi connection. The automaker rarely makes any physical changes or facelifts to its products. And one such rare occurrence is about to happen with the Tesla Model Y.
Last year, the Model 3 Highland also got some upgrades, not extensive but enough to make it better than the previous ones. And now the Model Y “Juniper” is also getting similar updates, meaning the underlying mechanicals and sheet metal won’t change, but there will surely be design enhancements, upgraded tech, a reworked interior, and hopefully better range and efficiency.
The Model Y is Tesla’s best-selling EV, and soon its updated version will hit the dealerships in 2025. Spy photographers recently caught the upcoming Model Y, nicknamed “Juniper,” prototype testing on public roads in Europe in a heavily camouflaged state. But despite the heavy cover-up, some details about the physical changes are obvious.
In the spy photographs, the front and rear of the prototypes are covered, but it is easy to guess that there will be updated headlights and taillights on the new Juniper.
The headlights showed similarity to the trimmed look found in the latest Model 3 lineup but are enhanced and made distinct with a split headlight design. This is certainly a departure from the current Model Y. Although tight under the wraps, the taillights also seem to get work done with a third (center) brake light now to sit above the license plate on the trunk lid.
But what needs to be kept in mind is that the upcoming Juniper is not a brand-new model. Thus, the overall size and shape of this EV will remain the same.
Like every other Tesla model, the upcoming Model Y will boast a large central touchscreen that will feature every control and piece of information about the ride. Plus, with the automaker’s tradition of providing new software updates through over-the-air updates, the 2025 Model Y Juniper will come with Tesla’s infotainment tech and will stay up to date for years to come.
Its interior changes will also be similar to the ones seen in the Model 3 Highland, meaning there will be a revised center console, a pair of wireless phone charging pads below the center screen, and a new steering wheel with those fussy turn signal buttons.

We do not have any information regarding the performance upgrades of the new Juniper. However, looking again at the 2024 Model 3 Highland, we can expect that there will be performance and handling improvements. Let’s hope in addition to all the other physical updates, Tesla will provide the much-wanted performance upgrades in the Model Y in 2025.
As per the speculations going around, the all-new Model Y is expected to debut sometime in the spring this year. However, with Tesla and Elon Musk, you can never know. So, stay tuned to know what more is there to this electric SUV.
